Giving Back to Communities with Life of Colour

Giving Back to Communities with Life of Colour

Every year, we align with one or two charities that reflect our shared values, offering support through cash donations or contributions of our products. Giving back to both our local and wider communities allows us to connect with the world around us in a meaningful way, fostering a unique sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Here are some of the incredible causes Life of Colour has proudly supported over the years.

Our Charity of the Year 2024: The Nova Peris Foundation

This year, I am incredibly proud to announce that Life of Colour has chosen to support the Nova Peris Foundation as our charity of the year. For me, this is not just about giving back – it’s about aligning with a cause that deeply resonates with our values as a brand and as Australians.

Nova Peris has always been one of my favourite Australians. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, the first Aboriginal woman to win a gold medal, and went on to win gold in 2 consecutive olympics, in 2 different sports! She is also Australia's first aboriginal woman elected to federal parliament and, above all, an inspiring representative of First Nations people in Australia. Beyond her remarkable achievements, Nova is a woman of unwavering conviction, kindness, and grace – beautiful both inside and out. Her dedication to empowering First Nations communities reflects everything I admire about her as a leader, role model, and human being. Please read more about the Foundation here.

At Life of Colour, our mission goes beyond creativity; we believe in connection, inclusivity, and making art accessible to everyone. Supporting the Nova Peris Foundation is a natural extension of these values. The foundation’s work focuses on building strong, sustainable pathways for Aboriginal communities – from food sovereignty programs and community laundries to micro-business opportunities. Their impact reaches families, children, and elders in remote areas, helping them access essentials for a brighter future.

As part of our support, Life of Colour has donated both a cash contribution and gifts of our pens and art kits. These supplies will be gifted to schools and aged care facilities in First Nations communities, and we hope that many more people will be able to experience the same healing powers that Life of Colour has had on so many of your lives! We’ve always believed that creativity has the power to unite, inspire, and heal – and it’s an honour to see our products helping make a difference in such meaningful ways to so many Australians.

Choosing the Nova Peris Foundation was an easy and heartfelt decision for me on a personal level. As an Australian company, we believe in giving back to the people of this land and celebrating its rich cultures. Nova’s support of Australia's Indigenous communities, as well as Indigenous people of other lands, is what makes her special to me.

To our Life of Colour community – every purchase you make this year contributes to this incredible cause. Thank you all for your support!

The Flower Project

Our Life of Colour Flower Project workshops are inspired by Ayla (8) who during her Chemotherapy Treatment decided to do a new flower each week with her art teacher. 10% of the cost of the workshop will be donated to Sydney Children's hospital in her name.

Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation

Jennifer Ebsworth from Brewarrina pictured above contributed by judging our Naidoc art competition in 2021.

Jennifer co-founded the Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation, an award winning community support centre for Aboriginal people in Western Sydney that provides a range of community services as well as a place of healing, where Aboriginal people connect with culture and have a strong sense of belonging. Life of Colour was honoured to be able to make a small contribution to the corporation.

RUOK 2022 "Everything Yellow" Collaborative Art Session

"R U OK? Day is a National day of Action, marked on the second Thursday of September each year"

The Life of Colour Facebook group members came together in 2022 to create something truly unique and special. We created a poster from the art that was collaborated together during a Sunflower workshop, both a cash donation and proceedings from the amazing poster that we put together went to the meaningful RUOK organisation. EVERY day is the day to start a conversation with those we care about and ask, 'are you OK?.

Masifundisane Creche in Folweni, Durban South Africa

Masifundisane Creche in Folweni, serves a disadvantaged community and has between 25 and 35 children per year, ranging from 6 months to 5 years old. It has become the centre of the community and all the children spend time there at some point during the day. The children are also given 2 meals per day and would ordinarily not have this at home. Nexus has donated close to R1 million to date, and they have had a few generous corporate donations - including from Life of Colour for sponsorship of their end of year graduation party.

More support to build 2 new classrooms and improve the facilities is still needed. If you, or anyone you know, would like to support this project, please reach out.

Lalela in South Africa

Life of Colour chose to make an end of year charity donation in 2020 to LALELA.org. This charity is very close Jodi's heart as it is in her home country of South Africa.

Now more than ever our friends there need any help they can get, whether it is basic food and necessities or help with art, education and other activities to enrich their lives.

Weave Kool Kids

Weave Kool Kids aims to Facilitate a safe and welcoming space for women and children. Donations from companies such as Life of Colour to Weave are used to provide specialist support such as improving access to opportunities, poverty, rehabilitation, tailored support away from the criminal justice system, operations to assist tutoring for drivers licence and many more holistic support opportunities.

Please support them by making a donation. Every contribution counts.

Sanctuary Housing- Women's Shelters in Sydney for Crisis Accommodation

Sanctuary Housing Womens is a not-for-profit which supports women in crisis accommodation who are escaping domestic violence.

Life of Colour feels especially privileged to have been able to give donations of products for the Sanctuary Housing Womens residents in their shelter. Providing resources and activities for mums and kids to do when arriving and staying there means they are able to take time out of their extremely stressful situation.

Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation

Life of Colour is humbled to be able to donate to such a worthy cause such as the Sydney Children's Hospital, cash donations are accepted to go towards purchases for new equipment, training and education, groundbreaking research, live saving transport, building state-of-the-art facilities or more.

Having fun collaborations and making prize donations such as the art competition in 2023 gives the children a chance to take their minds off their current realities and stressful situations.

The Spoonie Society

The Spoonie Society is a Melbourne based business that sells pain management aids to support the chronic illness community. In 2023 they reached out to Life of Colour to contribute a donation to an event to raise money for Jeans for Genes organisation making ground-breaking research into birth defects, stem cells, and supercharging the gene therapy programs so they can bring more cures to Australian children, faster.

Preschool and School Contributions

Every year there are a number of schools, preschools and educational businesses that reach out to Life of Colour for donations and we love to be able to connect with these establishments to give them art supplies that they can use in their classrooms or that they can use to raise much needed money for other purposes.

Primary schools like St Bernadettes and New Lambton South Public School and Rural centres like Kempsey Dalaigur Scribbly Gum and Bowraville Community Preschool's benefitted from contributions in 2023.

Greenacres Disability Services- The Outsider artist

Greenacres was established in 1953 and relies on contributions from the community to provide employment and support for individuals with disabilities. Life of Colour donated art supplies to their wonderful program "The Outsider Artist", an artistic outlet class for participants to get creative.

It is wonderful to be part of the Australian culture to lend a helping hand wherever it is possible, if you have a foundation or know of a charity that could use some assistance please reach out so we can work together to make a difference.
